Welcome WiseHeat.com - our new Affiliate

We are outsoursing our affiliate program management to GreenAffiliatePrograms.net. After speaking with the director, Ryan Jones, I really feel comfortable with his knowledge of affiliate marketing. His passion for conservation and green businesses is in line with our philosophies too. If you are a green business you can start like I did with a free listing on his affiliate pages.

With that I'd like to acknowledge that I got my first affiliate within a couple of days of our listing going online.  www.Wiseheat.com has news about alternative heating. Give them a look if you have a chance.

Ryan has also given me many ideas to improve the site plus I need to upgrade to Joomla 1.6 anyways so look for HeatMiserSaves.com v2.0 in the near future. If you have any ideas for improving the site design or comments about GreenAffiliatePrograms.net please leave a comment.

Fixing Thunderbird update bug.

Recently my Thunderbird app automatically updated then wanted me to restart Thunderbird to install the update. No problem. Until it restarted, applied the update (progress bar appeared) then gave me a warning saying that Thunderbird needs to be shut down before restarting. Of course it's shut down I just resarted it. Well this cycle wen on and on until I found this article:
http://www.ask.com/web?qsrc=2990&o=ffx&l=dir&q=thunderbird+update+failed+dialog+box
I started to fix by renaming
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Thunderbird\Mozilla Thunderbird
to
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Thunderbird\Mozilla Thunderbird old.

When I clicked ok on the dialog box, Thunderbird started right up and created a new
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Thunderbird\Mozilla Thunderbird
folder.

OK. but now there is another Software update window. Do I dare click it?
What the heck!
I'll update this post if anything bad happens

Now this post might not be about HeatMiser or saving gas or home heating efficiency but it is part of my experiences as a new online business owner so it's fair game. Besides, someone might actually need this fix for their Thunderbird and find it on my blog. That would be cool.

Dallas Home and Garden Show

Went to the Dallas Home and Garden Show with Chris tonight. We weren't exhibitors but we did get some nice marketing ideas and  made some contacts too. We took our little laminated flyer and everyone we talked too loved the HeatMiser. There were many booths demonstrating products for energy savings and energy efficiency. The radiant barrier products were very cool.

Met Ralph from A#1 Air. He has a very powerful personality and is the type of person you walk away from feeling very glad to have met him. Hope I can find someone like him to share our vision and sell HeatMisers someday.

Tomorrow is the last day of the show so I am going back to make some more contacts.

Dallas Startup Happy Hour 2.0 Meetup

Hello everyone. Last Thursday Chris and I went to the Dallas Startup Happy Hour 2.0 MeetUp for the first time. This blog is one of the results. We got a lot of advice about social marketing. The energy at the meetup was terrific and everyone there was eager to share advice. For more information you can search for Meetups in your area at www.meetup.com. The Startup Happy Hour page is at http://www.meetup.com/Dallas-Startup-Happy-Hour/.
The host was Architel and you are greeted at the door by a life-sized Hulk.
(I'll upload the picture when I get my cord Monday.)
The beer tap in the video game was impressive too.

Of course we took our first flyer and got feedback so after editing it we finished our third version.

We also were accepted to the Green Affiliates Network easily because the HeatMiser™ saves heating fuel which helps the environment. So off we go, changing the world one money saving furnace at a time. It's kind of late so I promise more exciting blogs later.
